Meet Ashley

Therapist with Eastern Door Counseling, LLC

You Were Never Too Much. You May Have Simply Never Been Fully Understood.

Welcome — I’m Ashley Gilbert, LMSW-C, a therapist with Eastern Door Counseling, LLC, housed within Moonrise Sanctuary. I work with sensitive and neurodivergent children, teens, adults, and parents who feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally intense, sensory-sensitive, or pressured to fit into systems that do not fully honor who they are.

My work is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and the belief that healing begins when we are met without judgment. So many of the clients and families I support have spent years trying to make themselves smaller, quieter, easier, or more acceptable. Children may be seen as “too emotional” or “too difficult.” Adults may carry years of masking, self-doubt, and shame from never feeling fully understood. Parents may feel exhausted, worried, and unsure how to support a child whose inner world feels big, intense, or beautifully complex.

At Moonrise Sanctuary, my presence as a practitioner reflects the heart of this space: healing that honors the whole person. I believe that meaningful therapy makes room for the mind, body, heart, and spirit. My approach integrates clinical therapy with nervous system awareness, EMDR, hypnosis, Reiki, and Ama-Deus training to support healing on emotional, relational, somatic, and spiritual levels.

My Approach

Clients and families can expect me to be warm, compassionate, holistic, and neurodivergent-affirming. I do not see sensitivity as weakness or neurodivergence as something to be fixed. I see each client as a whole person with a story, a nervous system, a spirit, and a deep longing to feel safe being who they are.

In our work together, we may explore the patterns that have helped you survive, including masking, fawning, people-pleasing, self-abandonment, or self-judgment. We approach these patterns with gentleness rather than shame. Often, the very parts of us we have learned to criticize were the parts working hardest to protect us.

My role is to help you or your child feel more understood, more regulated, and more connected to your authentic self. For parents, this may include developing a deeper understanding of your child’s emotions, needs, and nervous system. For adults, this may mean healing the wounds of being misunderstood, mislabeled, or pressured to disconnect from your truth.

I work with individuals navigating:

  • Sensitivity, emotional intensity, and overwhelm

  • Neurodivergence, masking, and sensory sensitivity

  • Anxiety and nervous system dysregulation

  • Shame, self-doubt, and self-judgment

  • Parenting sensitive or neurodivergent children

  • Family stress and relational disconnection

  • Trauma, attachment wounds, and misattunement

  • The desire for deeper authenticity and self-trust

Healing the Whole Person

My work is both clinical and holistic. Depending on each client’s needs and goals, I may integrate:

  • Traditional psychotherapy

  • Neurodivergent-affirming care

  • Nervous system awareness

  • EMDR
Hypnosis

  • Reiki

  • Ama-Deus training

  • Mind-body-spirit practices

  • Compassionate parent support

I believe that healing does not happen by forcing ourselves into someone else’s version of “normal.” Healing happens when we begin to understand ourselves with compassion, listen to the wisdom of the body, and reconnect with the parts of us that have been dismissed, hidden, or misunderstood.

For Children, Teens, Adults, and Parents

I support children through adults because sensitivity and neurodivergence are not limited to one stage of life. A child who feels overwhelmed by the world may need support in feeling safe, understood, and emotionally held. A teen may be navigating identity, intensity, anxiety, or the pressure to mask. An adult may be untangling years of shame, self-abandonment, or the belief that something is wrong with them. A parent may be longing to break cycles and respond to their child with more attunement, confidence, and compassion.

Wherever you are in this process, you are welcome here.

Work With Me

If you or your child are longing for support that honors your mind, body, heart, and spirit, I would be honored to walk with you. My work through Eastern Door Counseling is housed within Moonrise Sanctuary, a space created for integrative, heart-centered, and soul-honoring care.

You are not too sensitive.

Your child is not a problem to be fixed.

You deserve support that helps you feel understood, empowered, and whole.

Step Into Your Healing

No matter where you find yourself — devout or doubting, rising or unraveling, clinical or creative — you are welcome here. I believe healing happens when we are safe to be fully ourselves.

“The flower that blooms in adversity
is the most rare and beautiful of all.”
