Who We Are
A Place for Healers to Heal and Be Healed
At Moonrise Sanctuary, we are a mental health wellness collective in Grand Rapids, Michigan, reclaiming what it means to truly care for the human spirit. We believe healing is not a formula — it’s a relationship. One that honors the heart, mind, body, and soul in connection with others. Our mission is to create a space where practitioners and clients alike can return to their wholeness, not through performance or perfection, but through belongingness, truth, and community.
We are here to tend to the root of your pain. To hold space for the complexity, the mess, and the becoming. To walk alongside one another — as clients, clinicians, and community members — toward a more compassionate, collaborative, and embodied model of care.
We believe in Alchemy, the transformation that happens when people are seen and supported.
We believe in Community, where no one walks alone.
We believe in Renewal, the possibility of starting again. And again. And again.
We believe in Collaboration, where healing is co-created, not prescribed.
We believe in Connection, the sacred ground of all growth.

Our Origin Story
A Vow Made in 2002.
A Movement Born in 2024.
We are a collective.
But every movement begins with a moment.
I’m Nicole Fix, LMSW-C, founder of Moonrise Sanctuary and Eastern Door Counseling, also housed within this space. And this is where it began:
In 2002, I found myself on the receiving end of the conventional mental health system. What was meant to help instead harmed. I was misdiagnosed, mislabeled, and misprescribed psychiatric medication that didn’t just miss the mark — it drastically worsened my symptoms. When the medications intensified my symptoms, I was further misdiagnosed rather than being seen or heard.
The most traumatic part wasn’t the illness. It was the treatment itself.
That experience changed me. And in the midst of that pain, I made a quiet vow:
When I find my way through this, I will come back and help reclaim mental health care.
That vow shaped the course of my life...
My journey first led me deep into spirituality. I became immersed in the study of the Divine Feminine beginning in 2003, exploring sacred texts, traditions, and feminine wisdom across cultures. I became a Reiki Master in 2008, and by 2010, I began speaking publicly on the Divine Feminine and the healing power of spiritual remembrance. By late 2010, I returned to school to obtain my Masters in Social Work – Clinical. In 2011, I became a Coptic Teacher, studying the ancient wisdom long held within the Egyptian Mystery Schools.
By 2017, I opened Eastern Door Counseling, LLC, a heart-centered private practice grounded in healthy relationships with self, others, and the system itself. Additionally, I pursued advanced education in integrative and nutritional mental health interventions and explored ancestral trauma, continuing the promise I made to bridge the gap between psychology, spirituality, and embodied care.
I am a cycle breaker — in my family lineage, my clinical work, and now, in the system itself.
My foundation is my spirituality. Yet I’ve long witnessed how psychology can bypass the soul, and how spirituality can bypass the human psyche. At Moonrise, we don’t choose between the two — we integrate.
We embody.
We begin again. In wholeness.
Moonrise Sanctuary is the fulfillment of a promise made in the midst of darkness. A place for both healers and seekers to come home to themselves, to each other, and to a more compassionate way forward.
